I've been tempted by going head and cab again, especially with some of the Orange kit. But I remember lugging 4x12's around in my youth and moving to powerful combo amps gives me easy options for practice and gigs, so I'll leave the messing about to the drummers who take an age to set up and tear down while I'm supping a pint

Don't think you would have that worry with a Micro Terror!

Aww, you've made me relive the searching I did on this range, this was the combo I was looking at, looks like you get cases with it now, so I could really be kindred spirits with the drummer

I've been watching the video on the Blackstar ID100, and what I do like about those amps is that everything's on the amp and not hidden behind menus and buttons that can be variably assigned.  On things like the HD500X you gain a huge amount of flexibility, but it's all that much harder to access because you have to fight the interface.  Bilbo says he doesn't mind a learning curve, and nor do I as long as I feel that it's going to be surmountable.  I hope I'll get there with my gear!  I must say that using the PC software with the pod makes designing your own sounds considerably easier, although it's still pretty complicated because of the sheer quantity of options that are available.

I did like the Blackstar that I heard last weekend, and it certainly would have been my second choice.  Pretty flexible, and - from what I could hear in a very limited time - a very good sound for a digital amp.

Just heard the first Paul Kossoff tones with Mr Big and All Right Now. You could have done with that a month or two back! Sounds good, nice that the tones he heas made are downloadable so you can import them.

You have converted very quickly!  I reckon a little bit of it is in our minds though, that why those amps actually showing the tubes glowing probably appear to sound even better!

The Blackstar was in a slightly different area of the shop so I didn't hear it directly next to the DT25.  However, I did hear the DT25 next to the Spider IV and the Peavey Vypyr VIP2, and I could certainly hear the difference there between the tube amp and the two digital amps.  They still sounded pretty good, but don't quite have the impact that the DT25 had.

Can't think of many famous rock guitarists with solid state. Valves do seen to have that bit extra warmth and earthiness although SS does seem to be getting closer. Not my or Goooners old Vypyrs though!

Some valve amps from the 70s and 80s would be long in the tooth but they sound a lot better! But to be fair, we didn't pay a fraction of what a good valve amps costs.
