Amp Noise

Afternoon all,

Recently got a new Marshall amp. I'm a behinner and this is the first amp I've had. I've noticed it's making quite a noticeable swirling sound. I wondered if that's normal? It get louder the higher I turn up the volume. I've tried a couple of guitars and it's the same.

Which model is it?

Have you got the gain cranked up or do you get the sound at all levels?

Could it be a power supply issue?

Do you live in a flat or communal block? Have you tried it at a friends house? It could be a ground loop issue, some info here but heavy reading I'm afraid.

I have read about using isolating transformers to cure it. Have you spoken to the store you bought it from?
