Got myself an iRig HD and have just started tinkering around with Amplitube and Garageband on the iPad Air.
On the face of it Amplitude looks a more professional product at this point.
I'm not sure I want to go up the learning curve of getting conversant with the two interfaces, also Amplitude stings you for additional dosh for in-app add-ons to turn the app into a fully functional studio, although I don't mind paying for the add-ons if I'm making the right choice.

Any advice from anyone here that has gone through this would be much appreciated.

Ta.

Perhaps there's another app for the iPad that I've not considered that is better than both of the above?

Can't offer any advice on which is better, but if you're trying the free version of Amplitube, be aware that if you buy any add-ons for it, then upgrade to one of the paid for versions later, unless they're already included in the paid version, they won't transfer across, you'll have to re-buy them if you want them.

Check out Jamup as I think this is the best guitar sim, I've not touched amplitube or ampkit really since I bought it.

I use Jamup for the guitar sim and Garageband for recording, the interapp instrument option works great for this. With a decent interface like the irig HD Garageband isn't too bad but compared to Jamup it's pretty basic.

BIAS is pretty cool but you don't need it as the amps in Jamup are pretty good.
