Hi all.

I have a Eppy Les Paul Plus Top that I have previously taken the shiny poly coating off and now I'm going to replace it's standard Humbucker pickups with a set of Seymour Duncan SH1 Blues pickups.
I'm having this done by a local luthier hopefully next weekend, once I receive the SD pickups through the post. I like the pre-fitted Humbuckers that came with the guitar but the sound is very muddy especially with the neck pickup and I want a cleaner more dynamic bluesy sound overall.
I will keep posting here once I've received the new pickups and when this guitar has been fitted with the new pickups and report the difference in tone once the guitar has been setup, re-stringed and completed.

Seymour Duncan SH-1NandB Vintage Blues Pickup Set - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Musical Instruments

LP with supplied Humbuckers.

Had my Seymour Duncan pickups delivered tonight. Now to take the guitar and pickups to Electrohill to have them put in. Also going to need a nut replacement as the supplied nut got damaged when I took the guitar apart 2 years ago to de-glaze it. See pics.

Wonder if they can fit a bone nut? If so how much? [emoji4]

It will cost around £50 for a new bone or TUSQ nut fitted and cut etc.

Just dropped my LP off at my Luthiers. All in £80. That's for the new Seymour Duncan vintage blues pickups that I supplied to be installed, new nut replacement (was going for bone but the colour of them are white and wouldn't match the cream of the rest of the guitars covers etc) New 10 gauge D'Addario XL strings, set up and clean.
Should be ready for collection in 2 days

Yes I was expecting it to come a bit over £100. I enquired somewhere else and they were quoting at least £70 just for the setup. I'll post an update once the guitar is back at home.
I'm now tempted to have him setup my Squire custom Telecaster next.
Thanks.

My luthier charges £40 for a basic set up, strings extra. It's more for fret levelling etc. You might want to have a look at this, it makes a big difference to playability and allows you to set the action to where you want it, not where the guitar wants it.

Got a SH-1 '59 neck paired with a JB bridge in one of my guitars, nice for blues/overdrive sound, surprisingly works well for heavy too. Should be a nice upgrade on the stock pickups.

I tried the SH-1 in the neck of my N2, really liked it but the cleans seemed a tad glassy with that guitar. Be interested if the LP scale and mahogany body tames it.

Great sounding pickup though, really hit that classic rock tone. The APH1 I have in my slash gold top epi seems pretty similar from memory but is a tad more balanced.
