Anyone know about the music scene in Newcastle?

Hey guys, I moved to Newcastle Upon Tyne from London a few months ago, and I'm trying to get in the music scene. I thought i should start here you never know.
I'm trying to book some gigs and will be calling some venues to see what opportunities are out there. I'll appreciate any advise
