In my opinion Lee Child has been coasting with the last few books.
As others have said, they are all very formulaic, not that I object to that.

In one he had pushed Reachers abilty in maths and mental time clock to ridiculous levels but he did reign back in the next book.
Also - in one of the later books Reacher had no way of escaping being blown to death at the end. In the next book he is alive and slightly bruised but no explanation how he escaped - Lazy writing and a bit insulting to readers IMHO

Despite my criticisms I still enjoy them as bedtime easy reading.

I have to say say another favourite author of mine - Michael Connelly - Also seems to be taking the easy route and coasting. The intelligent plotting of the earlier books is now gone.
It's always a warning when the the blurb reads "This time it's personal"

There certainly was an explanation as to how he escaped the explosion in the underground bunker, I remember descriptions of him running up the stairs with flames licking around him etc.

Anyway, I just finished the latest Reacher two nights ago, I found it one of my favourites.

I can't say I've noticed that. One or two of them are written in the first person, which I'm not really a fan of. I find it a bit (forgive the pun) childish - The Hunger Games being another example.

Lets agree to differ re Reachers escape.
He does run down passages, stairs etc. But Childs makes it clear that no-one could escape the blast.
I just expected, like in an old time cliffhanger, that all would be explained in the next installment

I've noticed that too in a couple of his books - a slightly restricting technique IMHO, but not really a big deal for me.

One thing I like about the Reacher and the Bosch books is the way that the story flows and there's no unnecessary crap like you get with authors like Tom Clancy. Mr Clancy would gladly write a whole chapter on the family history of the person who picked the coffee beans for the morning drink our hero is having if it meant filling 700 pages

Well, I only had s few chapters from the first book on a kindle sample but it really struck me how short the sentences were during the arrest in the diner. Maybe it was done for effect and changed as the book went on. Think ill give the entire book a try now as I'm intrigued where its going

It's a good book , certainly gives you the taste for the series. Some nice twists
