Well I'm just annoyed with myself to be honest, I told you about this new edition of Thrones way back last year and then in all that time I didn't manage to order it and now it's got up a fiva from what it was at just last week, annoying, annoying annoying. Wish I'd ordered Thrones first, then Magician later, instead of the other way round.

While it is a 50% increase, its better to be 50% and equal only a fiver, rather than the stupid price increase that the slipcases have gone up from £30-£40 to £300 ....

Too right, another thing I find so annoying is that why are new fantasy hardcovers only kept in print for like five minutes?, you wait more than a few short weeks then you find Amazon struggling to get hold of the darn thing, case in point Terry Brooks Wards of Faerie, came out end of Aug and its been 'temporarily' out of stock for months. Finally it's changed to 'dispatched in 9-11 days so maybe i'll be able to get it now.

Oh and don't get me started on the new habit authors & publishers have of taking one big book and splitting up into three and calling it a trilogy, there seems to be less big thousand page fantasy epics now and more of these fantasy lite books of 300-400 pages which are turned into part of a trilogy

What shall I rant about next?, the best Terry Goodkind novel in years not getting a hardcover just an ebook release?, well least I have a Kindle so don't need to rant, just all these ebook only things like Odd Interlude etc etc, I wish I could find out about the darn things when they come out, not years later or never at all. Scared ill miss something great by a fav author before long.

What was/is the price in Waterstones, the one in manchester is the other side of town and I forgot to call in to see.

Will see if in WHSmith and tesco over weekend as going to the manchester signing myself so will get a couple of those and an older directors cut of Magician signed hopefully.

Shame it has increased like you said but no excuse for not pre-ordering ages for this and we all knew the last GOT went crazy within a few weeks.

As for the rest, all are considered classics but are a bit different in reality, all good reads though covering different sections of sci-fi. Just get the set and enjoy some of them and they'll all look good on the shelf.

As well as Feist signing, waterstones manchester has Harlen Corben and best of all Joe Hill lined up soon.

Waterstones | The UK's leading bookseller

http://www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/displayDetailEvent.do?searchType=1&author=Joe|Hill

http://www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/displayDetailEvent.do?searchType=1&author=Raymond E.|Feist

No sign of Stella Gemmel sadly though.

Only problem with these signings for me are that I doubt the books will arrive in time, the Feist is out on the monday so its a maybe with 1/2 day delivery. I thought I'd try delivery to one of those storage units as one is very close to me and thought I picked 1 day delivery but now its saying due on the thursday so that wont work.

Joe Hills new book is only out on the thursday which is the signing day so looks like I'll have to buy instore at full price .

One of my fav fantasy series Sword of Truth, I get tons of enjoyment from those books as I can just breeze through them and have a blast with a good story, of course if you don't enjoy fantasy 'lite' then you won't enjoy them, but I love pulpy popcorn fantasy just as much as something by Grr Martin or Steven Erikson.

Wish I was reading a SOT novel now, I'm reading book 9 of Wheel of Time Winters Heart, so slow and boring, like 150-200 pages in and it's hard going, got interesting for ten pages or so but now it's gone back to nothing happening again. I hope this one picks up a bit and moves the story along somewhat.

tbh it wasn't so much fantasy "lite", it was just badly written.

By the way, do you guys use Goodreads at all?

Btw do any of you read your signed editions? Got a lot on the shelf which I want to read but I'm so paranoid about damaging them.

Just got my signed limited slipcased edition of Wool through, and I've noticed already these are selling on eBay for nearly £200!
