The old screen printed comics didn't do double page spreads because their technology was limited. You'd have to get more colour layers lined up, an because the images were so much bigger any defect would be more conspicuous. It would have been more difficult to do well and if done badly it would look terrible.
There also isn't anything wrong with a page having no dialogue. That's the thing with comics, they are very visual. Too much dialogue can get in the way. You get comics like the new JI Joe where the character can't shut up and the comic is a chore to read. The you get stories Samurai Jack and the Cave of Crystal Calamity. There isn't a single line of dialogue in the entire story yet it's powerful and evocative because of it's art alone. |
