Hi folks,

Nothing anyone can do, just looking for a space to vent.

We’re due to fly from Heathrow to Denver in a couple of weeks. Been looking forward to this for months (a v. difficult year so this has really kept us going.)

Now with the possibility of strikes, am concerned as to the impact this will have.

Have provisionally reserved an alternative flight with United (£25 for their 7 day fare lock option) just in case.

Not looking to get into the rights and wrongs of the strike itself, just sharing my concerns!

What date are you due to fly? I believe the union have to give 14 days notice of strike action.

Same here. Was quite stressed about it initially but abated as we haven't had any strike dates announced yet.

We haven't flown BA for about 10 years to Hong Kong due to their service declining massively and Cathay and Virgin being just cheaper and better. This year we made an exception (blame the wife).

Since we fly on the 17th Aug (2 weeks from today) - we should be OK now for the outbound (keep checking the news over weekend still though) but the return a few weeks later is still a risk!

Anyway, Missus actually flies earlier than me - this Tuesday and the ground workers are likely striking at Heathrow. Not sure what is happening there. She has been advised to go very early but isn't sure if her flight is cancelled or not!

Is that the Direct LHR/Den flight with BA?  If so, report back as to how it was

Been considering that one but flew with United last year on the Dreamliner and that was pretty nice.   Not flown BA for a few decades as their Economy reviews are not up to much.

Hopefully the pilots will come to their senses and call off any strike action.

Most of them earn 6 figures   perks yet 11% odd over 3 years is not good enough for them.  Bloody unions.

In the real world, you get offered a pay rise (1,2,3%) and that's that.  No holding thousands of peeps to ransom.

We had the same nervous-ness a couple of months ago for a flight to the USA booked direct with Thomas Cook Airways - and them being very unstable financially.

It is very nerve racking so feel your pain and hope all works out ok for you.

I'm sure the BA workers have timed it intentionally at the worse possible time for customers - ie peak holiday season including kids holidays - but IMO this really could harm BA's reputation moving forward. I know I will never consider booking with them now and I will not book with Thomas Cook either, more so as there is no atol cover on flights, only package holidays. You have some claw back paying with credit card, but we paid on a debit card so if Thomas Cook had of gone bump, we would have had no come back.

We fly to the USA once or twice a year and we always avoid BA due to all the potential problems.  The strikes severely affected our holiday in 2010 so I'll never trust them again.

Well, I am flying to Hong Kong on British Airways from Heathrow in a few days time so you can imagine the pre-holiday stress I've had!
