If you report it and settle it privately it will affect your premium but not by as much as it would if your Insurers were paying the claim. The difference is that your NCD (no claims discount) will not be affected as there won't be a claim as the Insurer won't be paying out. If they pay his claim you would lose your NCD (unless protected)
Insurers use logic that says if you are in a non fault accident then you are more likely to be in a fault accident - so they put your premium up. I don't think that makes sense personally. How can someone reversing into your parked and unattended car be an indication of the quality of your driving???? (From perspective of person you collided with)
Claim is different from Fault. Your Insurers will load your premium due to a fault accident but not by as much as they would if they paid out and it was a claim. |
