Loved my company Passat, the most relaxing thing I have ever driven. 50-60MPG, Adaptive cruise, AEB, good sat nav and radio, loads of space, comfy seats - not a lot to criticise as a family bus.
However... It's not a sports saloon. The under-steer is quite pronounced when you push hard, the brakes will fade if worked hard and the acceleration is nothing to write home about, particularly the 1.6 diesel. Overtaking needs space to wind up the engine and it all sounds a bit strained. The body stays fairly flat through the bends and the suspension soaks up the bumps, but it all feels a bit flabby when motoring on a bit.
Not sure what equipment you get on the highline, but the adaptive cruise and Discover Pro sat nav for me would be a must. If I am honest, I would want the 2.0 engine, as it's significantly quicker and can return better fuel economy. Mine only had aircon, not climate but it was still excellent and I didn't miss it.
I suppose it depends on your needs, but for a comfortable family car I really do rate these. |
