Dont over think it.
Roof bars, sorted.   Ive had roof bars on for a decade.    Same bars on 3rd car.    Never leave.

Keeps bikes out the car, means you can fit in a parking space at a food shop etc.

Get thule, the stuff lasts forever.  Its worth the slightly more premium over own brand halfords etc.   Aero bars not square ones.        And you can add a roof box, or ski rack, or kayak holder etc . .its great.     Footpacks if you change car although citroen and mazda happen to have the same profile

Also wouldn't hesitate 2nd hand thule bars.  They dont really degrade so no issues.

Then, get those 4 quid plastic buckets from asda, for laundry, throw dirty kit in it, they are completely waterproof and keep the trail mud inside them.

Why, footpacks are like lego.   clicks onto whatever bars you have.   Ive a Mazda 6 estate.
