I know this isn’t of any use the the OP’s question, but regarding DPF regeneration....
So we have 2 cars, a 2007 BMW 535d and a 2017 Range Rover 3.0d AB
The RangeRover has 15k on it now and has just come back from its third oil service! It asked for its first service at 4K, then 10k and then 14.5k.
Having discussed at length with the dealer and searches on the internet the car is diluting it’s oil because of DPF regenerations that are not completing “because of our driving style”.
Initially, the dealer tried to put this down to too many short journeys but I challenged this on two fronts. Firstly, we live in the middle of nowhere, our shortest journey is probably 10 minutes to the school run. I recognise this is a short journey, but it’s the shortest it can do. Secobdly, regeneration only occurs at speed and with temperature, so lots of short cold runs would not trigger regenerations, but a DPF warning like the one the OP has. We have never had this on the Range Rover.
Fortunately, Land Rover have covered the 2 additional oil services, but they do try it on if you don’t challenge it.
I have two points here.
Firstly regarding the regeneration, why have no manufacturers implemented any user interaction with the introduction of regen? In our case, my suspicion is that because we live in the country and many of our roads are 60mph limits, followed by an instant coming to a halt, eg home that our car has most likely been regenerating and then being switched off mid cycle which causes the excess fuel that’s dumped to assist the regen to wash down into the oil and dilute it. If an indication came up on the dash board that said something like “Regen in 20 seconds” with an option to defer if you press ok on the steering wheel, this could be avoided. It seems that the way the engine / software has been designed that it’s not compatible with our scenario. There is nothing we can do to control this and I would be considering that the car is not fit for purpose if Land Rover weren’t accepting of the situation in both instances thus far.
Second point is, why do I not have this issue with the BMW, is regeneration a recently introduced thing?
Interested to know what the solution is for the OP even though it won’t help me.
Personally I can’t see me keeping the Range Rover because taking it for a service every 5k is just too much hassle, even if Land Rover pay for it. |
