There was me thinking all these new features would aid/enable us to avoid speeding fines, if we so desire

Motorists will always be used as a cash cow. Don't get me wrong I'm all for safety but cynical too.

I can see it working as, your right foot has overridden the speed limiter, now the fine arrives automatically and it's down to you to provide evidence that your action was necessary to avoid a collision to appeal.

If you don't exceed the speed limit, you won't get a fine

If this does stop speeding completely for all new cars then surely some department is going to lose a lot of revenue they collect in speeding fines? I'm not even sure who gets the speeding fines from the cameras to be honest, but if they're not getting them any more then they'll have to increase some other tax to replace it won't they?

It's also made me think, what would happen if millions of people switched to electric cars over night (yes I know it won't happen ) the government will be short of lots of tax collected from the sales of petrol and diesel.

I love my speed, but I'm sorry breaking the speed limit to avoid an accident that may be caused by someone else....Hmmm really?

Yes really, one example when I was driving with my family on the M40 to visit relatives. as I was paying attention (I was in the middle lane overtaking vehicles in the slow lane) I realised that the outside lane had suddenly come to a stop and as I saw a van in my mirror I realised he was going much too fast to stop, knowing what was about to happen I told my family to hold on whilst flooring the accelerator. The van slammed into the stopped lane of traffic  and slewed and some debris actually passed in front of my car. This all happened in what seemed like ages but was actually a split second.

SO YES REALLY.... Edited the last few words to what I meant to put.

Ok, you were there...To me it sounds like the outside lane came to a hold, and you started to accelerate even faster in the middle lane. And the van wasn't even in your lane. And despite the speed the crash still happened in front of you so you didn't accelerate out of the danger zone, possibly even blocking those in the fast lane not wanting to go into the middle lane to get out of the way because someone else was speeding there as well. The alternative could have been to slow down, then the debris was even further ahead from you...

As you gather, I'm not buying this speeding to be safe stuff No really...
