Do you guys all carry an empty jerry can in your boot? Not very far for me. I can't deal with the anxiety of a walk to the nearest garage, hoping they keep fuel containers in stock. Then I had a BMW with a dodgy fuel guage that I was unaware of when I bought it... conked out on me in the sticks when the warning light wasn't even on. Thirsty 330ci too. I was worried the 5L plastic can the garage had wouldn't be enough to get me there!
Haha sounds like fun, i had an a6 avant before my s8, but it was a boring 2.0tdi, used to average around 45mpg in that, even around 30mpg if i drove it like i stole it..... In the v10 however i got 20.7mpg this morning driving like a grandma
Ive got a full jerry can at home, but wouldn't carry it in the car, a faulty fuel gauge would be too much for my ocd to handle, I'd be too on edge all the time, occasionally being on edge is fun but not constantly.
My Z4 does at least 10 miles on "empty" with the range at 0.
We took a transit up to Scotland and going over Shap, the range went from 30 miles to 3 in a few minutes. Literally got up to the roundabout at Penrith with it coughing and stuttering and still had 2 miles to the petrol station. Made it and never ran it that low again!
As a (soon to not be) diesel owner, I don't play this game.
In other cars, Ive pushed 10 miles before I've got to a garage. It was one early morning start at work and just forgot to fill up. It's 15miles and I had "5" left that ran out pretty quickly.
Just watch Top Gears two episodes with an economy run to see how much a car will run on zero. JC both times pushed it to the absolute limit in an Audi A8 and a Jaaaaaaaag. Both had huge engines and both did at least 30 miles I think.
I think the jag that he drove to blackpool was showing 0 for about 20 miles, but i think i remember him saying in the studio there was enough fuel left to do another 80 miles or so!
Edit:just googled it and there was enough fuel to do another 150 miles!
