hi all..
last night i slid some step ladders into the back of my 2009 volvo s40 with the seats down....could'nt quite get them in so had to leave the boot open..

my old chap in his wisdom said fix the bungey chord to hold it open.....through the boot locking hinge thingy and snap it shut to hold it...then fix the other end under the car....thats what i do with mine etc etc

only drove about a mile or 2...and on return did the same...got home took the ladders out...and opened the lock again...think i did it a couple of times on the key fob...which opened it and it shut as normal

...now this morning i cant open the boot...tried on the key remotely...and using the manual doors open /close switch in the car....but it wont open....looked inside with the seats down and cat see anyway of opening it from inside.......so at least i'm safe in the knowledge that if i lock someone in there they wont be able to get out

anyway anyone any ideas?

cheers

Try pushing & pulling on the boot handle while trying to unlock.

I was thinking forward/back movement in case the catch is a little bent or has a chunk of bungee rope stuck in it. Maybe a few knocks with the heel of your hand?

well i hooked the metal hook of the bungey into the boot release latch...and fixed the other end underneath the car..like i say i only went down the road...so cant see anything being trapped in there....but everything worked fine before.
been looking on the volvo forum and everyones going on about wiring harness and switches etc etc...cant see it being anything like that ...unless i've been really unlucky and something has failed at exactly the same time i decided to hold the boot open

wondered if a wire or something has been pulled off....did shut ok last night...then did the same on the drive back...then locked it when i got home...now wont open.

will have to go out and brave the rain in a bit and have another fiddle

Worth checking if it's on a separate fuse. If it is & the fuse is OK, try removing it for a minute or so. My old E46 tailgate glass used to misbehave occasionally & pulling the fuse seemed to reset things.

think i just read on the volvo forum that there is'nt a a fuse ?

cant hear the boot 'clicking' when i operate the car and boot locking buttons.

i'm glad i took the big step ladders instead of the little 3 step ones i was going to take

There is a manual override in the boot to allow the boot to be opened from the inside in these cases.

Look inside at the catch area for either a small latch or a hole around the catch area where a small screwdriver can be fitted into so the catch can be released.

It's an electric release so I'd have thought it must be protected by a fuse.
