Jay Oliva, the same director of the two-part animated adaptation of Frank Miller's "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" does this time another intense and well made comic book adaptation, which balances very well the tragedy and bleakness with all the exciting elements of superhero stories.
what starts just like another adventure for Flash and the Justice League becomes a living nightmare for the former, once he wakes up in a different time-line created by one alteration done in past events, which will be the cause of many unexpected changes...Most of them for worse.
I won't reveal more plot details in order to don't spoil the many surprises it has. Instead of that, I prefer to say that it is much more unpredictable and complex than somebody could expect at first sight, being in many ways darker than all the previous DC animated films (including the two parts of "The Dark Knight Returns") but it is also very interesting to watch from beginning to end.
Personally, I liked the anime-influenced character designs, and I think that the animation style was appropriate for the mood of the story, making a very good contrast between bright colors and somber atmospheres. The voice acting was pretty good, and the overall result shows a high level of quality.
I think that this could be the best DC animation since the excellent "Jonah Hex" short included in the DC showcase, which I loved. Highly recommended!
