I started Fishing again a couple of years ago after a hiatus of about 20 years. I did, however, still have all my old fishing gear which I still use.
From the little fishing gear I have bought recently it does seem to be cheaper than I remember.
A basic rod and real can be bought for as little as £40. I even purchased 3 bite alarms and a pod to hold 3 rods for only £30. The bite alarms feel cheap but they work fine and I've had them for 2 years now.

I started again last season after about a 20yr hiatus - still had some of my old stuff so went to my local commercial fishery, and made sure I enjoyed it as much as I thought I would and loved it. I've have now bought some newer/nicer kit but have a long list of bits to pickup.

If you are talking about local lake/canal I guess you are targetting silvers (roach, bream the odd perch etc?). The species you are after and venues you are planning to fish will determine the tackle you need. As with most sports you can spend as little or as much as you like as there are options to cover all budgets. I've spent the last 6 months researching and buying stuff so shout if you need any help.

Angling Direct are basically the Amazon of angling but other places to checkout are

Erics Angling
Bobco Tackle
Fishing Republic
www.chapmansangling.co.uk

They often have sales on around payday/bank hols etc with 10-20% off so worth waiting for those. I've picked up the odd rod from Ebay and keep an eye on gumtree and local facebook marketplaces for tackle, although I find it's only old tat that people seem to sell.

Welcome back to the banks!

Paul

Have a look on gumtree at people getting rid of all their stuff, you could pick up a bargin.
Your going to need a few bait tubs, a Rod and reel if you want to use a rod that is, or a pole.  If you go for a pole then get it elasticated.
You will need a landing net.
Have a look online for fisheries in your area as using a commercial fisherie will help you to get your confidence up to fish harder venues if thats the way you want to go.

I’ve just started fishing over the last few months after a 20-year lull. I’ve been using these two rods with success and they were not too expensive. A Shimano Forcemaster AX Commercial Feeder Rod and a  Shimano Forcemaster AX Commercial Float Rod both with Shimano reels.
This was my biggest carp from last Sunday which put up a great fight!

I'll attempt revive a dead thread!

I've always been partial to a day on the bank and the odd night as well! Mainly carp fishing, but just happy to chuck a float about as well though.

Surprised there aren't more anglers on here!

You can catch Carp on a float you know! All my Carp fishing is done using a float, 12ft 1/1.4lb TC Shimano rod. Can't be bothered with all the faffing about ledgering/boilies/bit alarms/waiting.

Yeah you can catch them on a float, and I love to when it's an option, nothing better than watching carp feeding in the margins and being able to lower a float on top!.
But a float is not exactly the best thing to try when they're 60, 70 or 80yds  from you though.

I appreciate setting up with alarms isn't for everyone, but I like to use the best tactics for the given situation
