I love it when they revamp or remake classics, and give em' more pep
which is exactly what has been done here, in this refreshing, exciting 94' action pic.Obviously, an underrated, and unappreciated effort, where were in the hands of a great Aussie director, here is quite a slick, excited, and well acted movie, especially from our two chief support baddies, Madsen as a psychopathic (of course) partner of Baldwin's, and Woods as a slimy, powerful boss, who's just desserts, make for an electrified revenge moment. The action scenes are well handled, and engaging. Real life couple then, Baldwin and Basinger have great chemistry as fictional famous, fugitive couple, Doc and Karen Holiday, but it does help if your a couple, off screen too. I really like Baldwin here. There's this coolness and quietness about him, that's quite admirable, and he was quyte a sexy catch, before he fattened up, and did great Trump impressions. Tilly as Madsen's kidnapped lover, minus the husband, exudes this shy sexiness, really only being remembered before. for 1985's comedy Moving Violations before this, where she started becoming a truly respected, recognized, and superb actress, and like Woods and Madsen, she's one of the more engaging performers. Baldwin and Basinger (the two B';s) are of course no Mcqueen, and Macgraw, (the two M's) but they're interesting to watch bounce off each other. The sweet little happy ending played to a great Richard Marx song, leaves quite a memorable impression, and it was an ending I really liked. There are no real surprises, plot wise in The Getaway, save for some shock moments, but it's just a slick and exciting action adventure. This is the R18 Aussie VHS version, the MA15 was the cinematic played version.Great spillages and sprays of blood near the end. Engaging actioner, from start to finish. Do watch.
