I like this film, although it's a little over the top regarding the violence. I was born and raised in North Louisiana. There, people have a true southern accent; just like Mississippi, Alabama & East Texas. However, the city of New Orleans has a distinct accent. It is unlike any other state. Some areas are closer to a Brooklyn accent. Having lived in all these places, I know this. For example, in New Orleans 9th Ward, people say "Nawlins" for "New Orleans". "The Ninth Ward" becomes "De nine't Wawd". White, black, or brown, all speak in unique ways. Some of these neighborhoods people speak Creole, which is a mixture of French, Caribbean & English; heavy on the French part. It may hard to believe, but this is true. Sharon Stone really needed a dialect coach. She speaks with a very phony southern accent in this film. Ask anyone who has lived there for a year or more. I worked in NY City 28 years. I know accents from all over the country plus the world, as well. I worked in Manhattan 28 years, living there 14 years, briefly in Brooklyn, 5 years in Queens plus about 7 years in Jersey City, NJ. Before, I lived in Louisiana about 30 years. Also, Colorado and California for a year or so each. The last 2 have neutral accents. So please trust me about this unique trait. This is an interesting film, however it appears more like Los Angeles as far as the gangs. Don't get me wrong; their is significant gang activity in the "Crescent City" (aka/ "The city that care forgot"). It is very old and steeped with culture. Cuisine is French. Edgar Allen Poe lived there, as did Hemingway and numerous other famous authors and characters. The pirate Jean Lafitte helped fight against the British in the War of 1812. He was pardoned by Napoleon, and then Napoleon sold the Louisiana Purchase (it became a dozen or so states) for $12.5 million dollars to the USA. Today that land would be worth $100s of Billions, if not more: $Trillion(s). Even the money he received ($12.5 million) would be worth over $200 Million. NYC & New Orleans are (by far) my 2 favorites in America. Ask co-star Barry Shabaka Henley. He was born there. Sharon Stone sure wasn't. Val Kilmer is good. He has made multiple films there. Check it out.
