You expect the script to be functional, maybe terrible, but come on, it spent so long explaining pointless exposition for the ridiculous premise and not a single joke landed. Godzilla was boring. Kong was a joke. The fight in Hong Kong was okay for a bit. But there's almost nothing redeeming in this. Dumber than Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and I thought the second half of that film was going to be hard to top.
It was a truly painful experience for me. Is this all we expect from blockbusters these days? The effects that people seem to be raving about weren't even that good. And with nothing to tie you to any of the characters it all felt hollow and empty.
I wish filmmakers would go back to film school and learn from the classics and stop just ripping them off. (I saw the Jaws shot, it wasn't cool and it wasn't clever. Same for all the other shots that were ripped off. I don't think there was an original shot in this. At least not a good one). Too many movies these days feel like they've been made by people who have seen movies but have no experience in real life or in the craft of film making.
Really sad. I love King Kong (1933). I love Godzilla (1954). There's been some okay interpretations in between but this was just depressing. I'm not going to waste anymore time on it except to give you that warning.
