Incredibly well made film... that's what has to be admitted. A poetry of moving pictures and an introspective psychological study of the human soul. I loved and lived in every second of this tremendous film.

What surprised me the most is that Seven Swords was just an over 2 hour long film and already showed not only many more characters, but also ten times much interesting so than in Seven Samurai. Here's just a decent proof that one can hardly ever beat a true genius. I didn't care so much for these characters, of course, but that's very positively stated, that's the strength of this film. It's an abstract film and more philosophic study of the characters than just another schmaltzy entertainment.

I liked Once Upon A Time In China which was good and popular 15 years ago but not necessarily better than timeless films like Legend Of Zu which i adored unlike anything before, and by far *not* as great as this groundbreaking film. Which prompts me to state that something what is popular or easily accessible not necessarily means it must also be better than much more powerful, more demanding films.

Seven Swords is the best wuxia film in the last decade for certain. 10/10
