We've seen a Bad Santa and a Bad Teacher. Now we have "Bad Judge", perhaps an ill-titled show that is really funny. It seems many viewers rejected this show after viewing the first episode--a common mistake. Rebecca Wright is much more than the bed-hopping, careless woman many saw in the pilot.
As we discover, there is something she desires more than pleasure--it's justice, even at the cost of bending the rules (of law, society or order). She not only flaunts the rules of propriety; she flaunts the common, unspoken rules of society, like "go along with the crowd" and "don't rock the boat". That makes her a rebel, but she has a cause.
She also has a remarkable track record--in law school, as an attorney, and (in the eyes of her managing judge) on the bench.
She also happens to be damn funny and quite attractive. This is "New Girl" but with a more traditional comic style, featuring punch lines more that odd behavior. From what I have read, this show is being cancelled, but I am a fan of Kate Walsh now.
How can so many people watch Judge Judy--a totally unfunny woman with very little civility in her nature--when there's a Judge Wright who is hilarious, compassionate and surrounded by other actors who are funny in their own wrights?
