Not awful but not good

Might have given this a 4 or so but too many phony reviews are giving it a 10 so bumped down for balance. Everything screams TV movie in terms of acting, dialogue, special effects, etc. so the film was nowhere near groundbreaking as others would make you believe. The boy's mother had the worst acting, along with the father, which is difficult to ignore when she is almost always on-screen. The score is all over the place with in-between moments like driving having more intense horrorlike music than actual "scary" parts. After obvious hints are dropped about what's going on things slide downhill when the starting point wasn't much higher. The heavyhanded Chinese mysticism did not help but maybe that could have improved with better writing.
