Word has it that when LIFEGUARD finally got onto an airing on the network, an exec looked at it and ordered a flunkie to rip the film off as a TV series. And thus was BAYWATCH born....
But do not judge this fine film by its bastard child. LIFEGUARD is a fine bit of nostalgia for the California beach lifestyle that few of us actually experienced but saw A LOT OF in the movies and TV. It's also a bittersweet coming-of-MIDDLE-Age movie reflecting the realities then beginning to face the youth-obsessed Baby Boomers.
Sam Groom is, as always, incredibly good. I don't think he's capable of making a bad flick.
