I have watched both accounts of this incident, here on SOS: How to Survive, and also I Shouldn't Be Alive(S6,Ep1). There are many questions that need answering before I can understand exactly what happened.
1- Dewey explains that he hikes for 3 hours to get to the lava flow. And, he claims he is an experienced hiker. He does not bring any water for this minimum 6 hour hike ?
2- He claims he followed the coast back to get back to his car, and then turned inland too early and missed the dead-end road. Okay, that is entirely possible. However, the following morning, he would VERY easily be able to locate the coast. I have looked at the topographic maps of the area. The land slopes toward the ocean from anywhere in the Volcano National Park area. He would be walking uphill the entire time he was walking inland. The ocean would be VERY easy to see, by walking to the nearest high point in the area. Again, an experienced hiker would know this.
3- There are many other details that do not add up to make this story believeable.
Watch both shows and see if you can spot them.
Dewey, if you are reading this, I would love to have you explain some of these missing details of your story. And please leave out the part where you dehydrated and couldn't think straight...
