Could you imagine the legendary writer (GUYS & DOLLS) in collaboration with the idea men at Warner Brothers? A SLIGHT CASE OF MURDER is high camp that only this ideal team could concoct. Hands down. After watching this gem for decades, my only conclusion is that the genius behind these 30s comedies was to just have fun... and they sure did! Edward G. Robinson took a day off from playing his cigar chomping bad guy to portray Remy, a cigar chomping kinda good/kinda slippery Prohibition beer baron (who made a fortune selling lousy beer)... now going legit AND selling MORE lousy beer! You can't make this stuff up, and then , maybe you can. Who else to play Remy's wise-cracking wife but the unforgettable Ruth Donnelly, who snags some of the best lines here, if not expressions, followed by the studio's "Irish Mafia" alumnis, Allen Jenkins and Ed Brophy, Runyan-esque characters if there ever was! And more.....special applause for Dead End kid Bobby Jordan, who was a very talented actor in his own right, playing Robinson's cigar puffing adopted son who knows where THE LOOT is buried. A memorable Riches to Rags to Riches saga from Runyan and that dream team of writers, all under the direction of one the best of his generation, Lloyd Bacon. RECOMMENDED STUFF
