I taped Konga some years ago when Channel 4 screened it during the early hours. I found it very enjoyable. It is, in a way, a British version of King Kong.

Dr Decker arrives back from a year long break in Africa after he went without telling anyone and was presumed dead. He has brought back a chimp (Konga) with him and he intends to experiment on it with a growth serum. He tries this out of some plants at first in his greenhouse and when his cat accidentally swallows some, Decker shoots it dead as it will "spoil things" for later. He injects Konga with a dose of serum and he gets a little bigger. The experiment is working. After making him a little bigger still, Decker uses Konga to kill some people he dislikes and police are called to investigate these deaths. After Dr Decker's partner finds out about this, she injects Konga with a big dose of serum, which turns him into a gorilla and escapes, picks Decker up and goes on the rampage through London. He is shot dead at the end and reduces to normal size after dying. Dr Decker is dead too.

Konga as a giant is played by a man in a gorilla suit and I found this sequence quite amusing.

The cast includes a great performance by Michael Gough (Horrors of the Black Museum) and is joined by Margo Johns as his partner, pop star Jess Conrad and Claire Gordon.

This movie is worth seeing, just for Michael Gough's performance and Konga as a giant. Great fun.

Rating: 3 and a half stars out of 5.
