**SPOILERS**Somewhere in here, no doubt. This movie is an excellent companion to "The Big Fix"; if you wanna remember certain parts of the middle 60s to the middle 70s. It's actually a helleva lotta fun if you just turn off you're infernal yuppie logic, and enjoy good acting, and the fact that FINALLY somebody had the brains to see how good Hopper was (R.I.P., Dennis). In "Easy Rider", he played a self-centered fink turned decent chap who was doomed no matter what. In this film, he plays a retired radical who does to an F.B.I. agent, what Wyatt did to Billy in E.R.. i.e., made him like someone else besides himself.
If you are lucky enough to see it, remember it's called Flashback for a reason. Carol Kane plays the sweetest unreconstructed hippie princess I've ever seen, and also try to overlook the fact that Buckner's (Free) resentment toward his parents is nuts. He bemoans how difficult it was to be a "hippie Kid" - Hunnh??? EVERYBODY in California was a "Hippie Kid". And shooting the handcuffs to set Huey (Dennis) free?? Why? He didn't have a key? Again, Hunnh?? Forget all that. It's a neat little feel good film, and one that all us Ex- Sixtyites can enjoy on the merits of a fun flashback to our youth.
