It's too bad more movies couldn't be written like this one. With insight into the human psyche, the survival instinct heightened when "man" is pushed to the brink of physical collapse, and the pursuit by hostile warriors hell-bent on killing him, this film successfully depicts life in all its brutal physical aspects which is the frightening battle for survival. Chase movies work! One that comes to mind is "The Warriors" (1979), about gangs in New York City.
But this movie is more than just chase. It is the frightening prospect that we are all alone in this world facing hostile elements. Survival is the key to life and we must fight all the way in order to just stay alive. If we as a society did not have a McDonald's on every corner, doctors, hospitals, drugs for medicinal purposes, etc., how long would any one of us survive, especially facing what Cornel Wilde faces in "The Naked Prey"? This is a provocative film that makes you think.
I cannot too highly recommend this film. A frightening tale that packs a powerful punch to the heart. The opening sequences in the African natives' village is horrific. It displays man's barbarous nature at its ugliest. A simple film but one that works! A far better depiction of survival than any of "the Survivor" series!
