Finney plays a Consul in Mexico who wonders through life in a state of alcoholic stupor. The film follows him on the day of the dead where his wife (Bisset) returns to be with him and to try to start their lives together again.

This allows Finney to give a tour de force performance and potentially the definitive performance as an alcoholic. If you are prepared to essentially watch this ie the day in the life of an alcoholic in Mexico there is much drama to admire and humour to enjoy, but overall it is not an easy watch. Bisset is also not bad with Andrews so so in a bland role and Mexico not exactly painted in a great light.

Worth seeing but not a lot of fun.
