First off, I'm a huge fan of films set in mental hospitals. Session 9, House on Haunted Hill remake, the list goes on. Well, Madhouse started out like your typical asylum flick: A young doctor arrives at the hospital, becomes acquainted with some patients and staff members, gets tricked into thinking a patient is a doctor...you know, the usual stuff. Until about 15-20 minutes in, it sticks to the formula. After it's introduced the characters however, you know you're in for a different kind of film. I cant say much more about the plot without giving it away, but suffice to say there are some very creepy moments. The actors are surprisingly good, with no real stand-out performances. The entire cast was great. With the exception of a few really corny lines, the script seemed to be written well. The ending is the main drawback of the movie, but I wont spoil it for you by explaining how. Ill just say that the Alternate Ending on the DVD was MUCH better. Overall, this is a great movie. No more needs to be said, just go rent it and you shouldn't be disappointed!
