This movie sadly disparages Jewish pride and tradition as it tries to bring a message of harmony and acceptance. The Jewish characters find nothing improper about Jews celebrating Christmas, though most Jewish families have traditionally seen that as a line they would not cross. The movie depicts a family singing in Yiddish as the celebrate Hanukkah, but implies that was one of the things the young Jewish lead character found alienating and meaningless. Spoiler alert: in the final scene, the Jewish characters are played in exaggerated fashion, with stereotypical mannerisms and over-the-top bad acting. They "kvell" that their Jewish son/grandson has done such a good job celebrating Christmas. Really?
