Maybe I missed the kicker?

I like Indie movies, and this intrigued me enough to watch it through, but... hrm... fast forwarding through it for this review.

Well, first off, Alex is a huge fan of JP, has literally met him, yet doesn't have the slightest clue who he is.

Aside from that...

This feels much like a substantially toned down version of The Game. Which is fine in theory, but, the stakes here are virtually nonexistent for Alex. Don't trust people because they lie? I dunno, but, duh?

The other big thing is the last 15 minutes or so - particularly Ruby's "I'm an actress" thing - practically scream that a deeper twist is coming, but it never does. And JP and Nora's early conversation helped create this expectation. I was expecting they were staging him to commit a murder or something.

And from rewatching it now, it seems like we're supposed to believe that Alex believes his thing with Ruby is real? I can't see how he could possibly believe that even before it's glaringly obviously he's being lied to. If this were made as late as the 90s, maybe, but a 19 year old in 2020 the way media is now? No way.
