Sometimes a movie is so bad it's good. How best to explain that statement? Yea, the dialogue was bad at times, but that's what made it good. We expected it to be cheesy, and it worked. Then we have our intrepid hero, cast of monster(s), annoying characters who you hope get killed (eaten) early on so that they are out of the way, etc. What I think a lot of people missed, well those that did not like the movie, was how funny this movie truly is. Especially how perfect Robert Englund is in this part. The man is great at subtle humor and the beginning scenes as the somewhat befuddled science teacher was spot on (reminded me of a chem teacher I had eons ago). The whiny girlfriend was perfect as well, especially at the end when she began to sound like some yippy dog. And the scene as the monster chooses who is next and one guy goes "uh oh" was very funny. And unlike a lot of cheesy horror flicks, this movie actually had a plot and a solid back story so we knew why our hero behaved the way he did as well as knowing that there will always be monsters, and always heroes to get rid of them. What more can you ask for in a movie, even if it copies a few elements from other movies (Slither, which is also a good flick)? I am so glad our son shared this with us (he found it on Netflix). And there's a second one too! Can't wait, and we hope that unlike most sequels this one does not suck.
