The first episode rolled along at a fair old pace: lots of characters doing lots of things; lots of connections between said characters; a fair amount of politicking.
I'm not convinced by Dawn Ellison (played by Helen McCrory) as a Thatcher clone. And all the talk of privatisation gives this very much a 1980s feel.
I was trying to work out who Peter Laurence (played by Hugh Laurie) is modelled on and wondered if there wasn't a little Alan Clark in the mix, as well as a hint of a certain Mr Farage?
This feels like it will be an amusing ride, but it seems unlikely it will linger in the mind like the original (BBC) version of House of Cards. House, perhaps, but no cigar.
