I'll start by saying, I loved the original and having been a child when it came out, it really did put the frightners on me! I'm not sure whether I would like a young child watching this as some of the Grand High Witch effects seem to be straight from the Pennywise 'It' film!.

I was really disappointed with the CGI in this film as well, firstly, they used WAY to much of it.  I mean they use it in nearly every shot (kept thinking back to the original where hardly any was used, just makeup etc) and secondly, the quality seemed really poor for a film with such a big cast and budget. The Grand High Witch constantly looked fake (I do realise it is!) When she was in full witch mode, the cat and the mice aswell, they just didn't look great. Not what they should have been.

Anne Hathaway is great, takes on the role well. Her only downside was her accent, it did change several times throughout to different European sounding voices.

Apart from that, the story stays true to the original film, mostly. I would watch it first before the kids, young ones in particular, but still worth a watch. 6/10
