I rarely write reviews on IMDb, but this show really made me write a review, particularly because I was amazed by the negative comments over here. I really feel people are just giving 1's so easy. I also think it isn't fair towards the hard work of everyone involved in producing the series.
Sonic Boom is really funny. I have almost finished all episodes of season 1, and I'm delighted to read there will be a second season. I've been playing the Sonic games since I first got my Sega Megadrive (Genesis) in the early 90's. I won't call myself a die hard Sonic fan, but I've been following it on and off.
I also enjoyed the original cartoon from the 90's, and I really liked Sonic X. But this show really made me laugh. The jokes are fast and clever, and they sometimes resemble the every day real world situation. The timing of each show is right, and the story never gets bored. I can imagine some longtime fans don't like the way they changed some personalities (Eggman really is a slapstick comedy performer instead of the evil genius) but the Sonic universe has been there for so long you need to make room for something new. And I quite like it.
The only thing I would have loved is to see more old characters from the Sonic Universe, like Rouge and Cream. But I did understand we could expect something like that in season 2.
As far as the animation; I personally think the animators did a great job. Maybe it's not for everybody's taste, but I really like the look and feel of the show and the characters.
Conclusion: Sonic Boom is a funny show for the entire family, although most jokes a better understood by adults.
