"CHiPs" - short for California Highway Patrol - is a classic TV show that ran for 6 seasons from 1977 to 1983.It stars Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada that portrayed Officers Jonathan "Jon" Baker and Frank "Ponch" Poncherello respectively. In the 6th season when Wilcox left the show,Tom Reilly and Bruce Penhall tried to fill in the shoes of Jon Baker as brothers Officers Bobby "Hotdog" Nelson and Bruce Nelson respectively to serve as partners of Ponch.Robert Pine co-stars as Sergeant Joseph Getraer, the fatherly commanding officer of CHP.

The show had 139 episodes during its 6 season run.It tells the story about the officers' life both on duty as patrolmen as well as their social life during off-duty.Being on motorcycle is what made it original and refreshing.Added to that,we get to see great chemistry between Wilcox and Estrada despite their strong dislike for each other off-camera.The show made Estrada extremely popular.Too bad that when Wilcox left the show, its ratings started to decline due to the replacement co-stars as well as their lack of creativity in terms of screenplay.Apparently,it was evident that Wilcox and Estrada was necessary to be together to continue the success of the show.

At present, the show remains popular on re-runs and syndication despite being dated by today's standards.
