There are two technologies here, you have to be careful not to get them mixed up.
HDMI over Cat cable just uses Cat6/7 cable as HDMI cable. It behaves exactly the same as an HDMI cable does, just more expensive and allowing longer runs.
HDMI over IP is converting a HDMI signal to network traffic so it can run over a network. This needs lots of bandwidth so you're talking about using the same Cat6/7 cables but as they're set up as a standard ethernet link you can use the infrastructure for other things too. |
