I have bought a house and the previous owner has decided to take the alarm system and cctv cameras that are all wifi linked with him unless i pay £1000 . Without knowing what brand of system how easy is it to use existing wiring to put in a new alarm system and cameras

The alarm SHOULD be fairly straightforward, although I have seen some bizarre use of alarm cabling. Likewise the CCTV SHOULD be fairly straight forward you just need to ascertain whether it was a Digital (CAT 5/6 Cable) or Analogue (RG6 or RG59) system. Depending on Cameras and how many there were £1000 may or may not be excessive, likewise alarms run from £10's to £1000's depending on make and model and numbers of zones, keypads etc.
Assuming all of the cabling is good and usable you should be able to replace both in 2 days max.

Check your cctv cables if they are a coaxial (aerial) type cable standard cameras will do or stranded cat5/6 you have the pick using video baluns you can convert from the cat5 to a BNC coaxial connection or using it as data cable you can go for IP cameras.

Pyronix alarms and hikvision cameras are fairly good quality for good prices.
Only issue I see with these is if they get added to the US ban list like  huawei you might get issues with the apps.

Easiest to post a picture of what cable types you have which will help any Posters give you the best advice.
The main point is if you are confident doing the work yourself or would have to pay extra to get the kit fitted.
Also worth checking what’s in there already as could be old and worth nowhere near what they are asking.
