Wanted to check if this was normal. I got to:

Settings > accounts and backup > backup and restore > back up data

Once I begin everything will back up in seconds but then get stuck at 97%:

The first time I tried this I had to stop at the 1hr 10min mark. It had been on 97% for most of that time with messages sitting on 75% but everything else having backed up.

Second time I had to stop at 10 mins because I had to go to work. When I go back to the back up data page it actually gives a date of last back up as the last time I tried, even for messages which was at 75%.

Was wondering if anyone else experience with this and whether a back up of the phone has been created?

I've just tried doing a backup. It gets stuck on 97% if I include the music folder, which remains at 0%. If I don't include the Music folder, it goes through fine. Not sure if you need to give backup permission to read the Music folder or something

That is odd as I just checked by re-trying the back up when I got home and my music is fine. I don't remember giving it any special permissions. Same still for the messages for me but I'm not too worried about that. Just not sure if the rest has backed up.

It should show you the progress of each section, and I think that if you stop it, it's only the unfinished section that doesn't get backed up.

Just to be safe I backed it to the sd card in the phone but I think it should be fine restoring back from the google account once the phone is fixed.

I think the issue with mine was WhatsApp. I believe this app does not back up to the google account through settings. It does however back up to the google account through the app itself.

Be aware that the utility you are in there is backing up to your Samsung account - the google account backup is a separate entity...

Is this just backing up locally?  I use Samsung Smartswitch to back up to a PC and conveniently you can browse the data it's backed up to check the images and videos are backed up as expected.
