Now is probably the worse time to buy a TV. The models I would have suggested and listed as decent HDR TVs in the guide: My best value TVs, 2017 Edition have all but sold out.
When they were readily available at 55" they were selling close to £1300/£1000 s that gives you an idea of the kind of budget needed to afford a capable HDR TV.
And that brings me to the most important point, at a budget of around £700 you simply cannot get a TV that will display HDR to a decent standard, my suggestion would be to save up and keep an eye on the pricing of 2018 models like the Sony XF9005 and Samsung Q7FN to come down in price and swoop for those.
If you can't wait and need to buy now the best compromise would probably be the Samsung 55MU7000 which is well priced at the moment but its HDR performance is questionable at best. This, providing you don't need wide viewing angles is a much better overall TV than the LG you have been looking at.
LG LCDs are generally very poor and I don't recommended them unless people prefer wider viewing angles over superior picture quality from the front.
This may give you an idea of when 2018 models become more reasonably priced: The best time to buy a TV tldr black friday toward as much as circa 10 months from now.
The key to getting the best value for money isn't just which model you go for, but also the time you buy, with newly released models costing as much as 40% more on release than their price a year later.
But don't worry, there are still advantages to still gaming at 1080p such as being able to game on the PS4 pro at higher frame rate with higher quality textures. Many people will disagree with me but UHD gaming is really there yet, not until the consoles are able to pump out high enough frame rates for a smooth experience anyway.
