Hi,

Following a newspaper article a couple of weeks ago, does anyone have more details of the governments proposals for villagers living within a mile of a WindFarm to get a reduction on there electricity bills?  I understand they are considering giving a 20% cut, to reduce opposition to new sites.  What will happen to those already up and running?

For those of us in such a situation with a new WindFarm coming on line, will we be able to apply for the rebate if it comes into force?

I thought most new wind farms were going to be out at sea?

And while I wish you luck if you think you may qualify, what kind of effing lunatic comes up with a policy like that?   What is the point of trying to reduce electricity produced by fossil fuels with wind farms and at the same encouraging people to use more electricity by reducing the price?  Surely the only sensible way forward is to encourage people to use less (more efficient white goods etc, better insulation) by subsidising efficiency related products and then replacing "bad" electricity with "good" electricity whenever possible.

What happens when its freezing cold and there is no wind?  People who were encouraged to spend money on electric heating through subsidies will use more, more coal will be burnt and the overall effect would be negative.

If someone insulates their house more and saves 30% of their energy consumption, that is by far and away the greenest possible result, regardless of where the energy came from.

Another crap idea from whoever.  IMO

Well said that man!

Any spending that isn't on nuclear is a waste,  wind is expensive,  unreliable let and you still need the big power stations as back up! This government only continues down this expensive path because people get a warm fuzzy feeling thinking they are saving the planet,  before complaining their energy bills are rising and government isn't doing enough to limit them. Solar is even worse,  it's a short term fad that isn't even remotely feasible in a long term economical sense.

Bite the bullet,  build nuclear and ensure energy sustainability!
