That’s certainly a good comparison! Does your house run at a similar idle?

I’m afraid I’ve never quite worked out the idle consumption!

I built my house 11 years ago now, also now a 5-Bed with GSHP, MHRV, fully zones UFH, screened floors and plastered blockwork walls for thermal mass, LED lightmeduim by throughout. Now paying £150/month and averaging 15000kWh per year. I also have an electric car so charged mostly from home so this adds to my usage.

funnily enough, my background base usage is also 1kWh/h, so 24 units a day!

Just checked my meters since the new one was fitted a year ago.  30,000kWh per annum!  So 2,500kWh per month or 82kWh per day.

I’ve been running an energy monitoring system (openenergymonitor.org) for the last month which has validated this.  It’s also allowing me to try and identify devices that are problematic!

We have a 4 bed detached house, from memory 300 square metres so takes a bit of heating.  It was built in 2008 so relatively modern construction and efficient but no eco home.

Edit: just found the epc, 351 sq m

Last year we upgraded to a 3 phase electricity supply to cope with a 15kW ground source heat pump we had installed.

Currently having 25KW PV solar fitted, hoping for it to be connected up tomorrow so I’m hoping to knock a fair bit off that electric bill!

4.4kWh generated on its first full day, practically no sunshine and rain all day so probably quite good considering!  Not going to impact the bill very much this time of year then!
