Fox is infamous for biting the hand that feeds it. Hell, even the Simpsons know it- they 'mentioned it' on one of there episodes! Fox is also known for taking great risks in animated TV (Futurama, Family Man) and quirky shows (Strange Luck) but alas- those great shows are gone. Well "John Doe" is another quirky gem. Granted the premise isn't 100% original (yes I know "it's 'the Pretender"... But less we forget that 'the Pretender' is ripped from another short-lived series called 'Probe' with Parker Stevenson) but John Doe is more interesting and ernest as the Pretender is dull and pretentious. Dominic Purcell is very good and convincing for a new actor. The other 'main' characters unfortunately are generic cut-outs: the black cop with his ebonic lines and corny 'urban' accent, the ditzy, down-on-her-luck helper chick is a Joss Whedon clone and the police captain is just not that interesting but might be here on. The premise is interesting but like the Mulder-sister-question it might drag to a long and anti-climactic end. But who knows? If this good writing keeps up maybe they can pull off/deviate/mutate the story into something entertaining. Here's hoping... :D
