Aweful acting from main character but good story

This would be a great show if the grandfather/judge could act,
His acting reminds me of the episode of Friends where Phoebe tries to act. He ruins the show and his character is annoying as hell.
Also find it a bit hard to believe there would be a full investigation team looking for a cat killer.
