I noticed that no one had posted in here for a while so thought I'd bring things up to date with regards to my training and give some of you who had promised to start a MA the opportunity to confirm if you did follow through with your promises.
Anyway, I'm still training Judo twice a week and am now a 3rd kyu (green belt) I've been lucky enough to medal at the 3 tournaments I've entered so far with my most recent success being a silver in the Surrey open Blue belt and under back in February of this year.
I will likely grade for my blue belt before Christmas which will give me the whole of next year to get my brown.
I've also been doing some boxing pad work once a week with one of the gym instructors at my work gym who used to box for the Marines.
I decided to stop cross training BJJ as I didn't have the time to commit to that and Judo, but would like to revisit BJJ once I get my Judo black belt.

Ever encountered a chap called Jon Jarvis? I know he competes at a lot of Judo competitions.

^ Congrats big man, that's a great achievement, judo is a very underrated MA, especially in today's MMA world.
I myself took up MMA at Gracie Barra Glasgow, I trained for about 16 months getting 2 tabs on my white belt from BJJ world champion Lucio "Largarto" Rodrigues, but had to step out due to having another baby.
Started back again in August past and I got my 3rd tab from Lagarto last month. If I had stuck it out I'd probably be a blue belt with a tab by now but with the way training is going now I should get promoted to blue belt status within the first couple of months in 2013.

doesn't ring any bells. Where does he train and what belt is he?

Yeah and I think its taken a woman (Ronda Rousey) to make people appreciate that Judo can be used without a gi

Don't actually know, I knew him from Fight Club and see posts on Facebook a lot with him getting medals at various events. He gets his gi via a sponsor so he must be doing Ok!

Very true.
When ever I'm sparring and we clinch up, I fight like mad to get the under hooks cause if you can't get the suplex, putting your hip in and doing a hip toss is an extremely handy way of taking the guy to the ground and gaining side control in the process.
Big fan of judo, nothing better than throwing someone to the ground then swarming them and tapping them out..

Actually ignore me, I think it's BJJ he competes in. Could have sworn it was Judo. //static.avforums.com/styles/avf/smilies/facepalm.gif

I hear this a lot from BJJ'ers and have experianced it first hand. Unfortunately you dont seem to get the same respect from Judoka towards BJJ'ers. A lot of the older Judo instructors think BJJ = no holds barred cage fightingdata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
Whenever i've been to a BJJ club, i've gotten nothing but respect from everyone
