People felt the same way about Steve Davis when he was dominating Snooker. Off the table he's hilarious

I think it has to be Wiggins. Altho it is really an impossible year for it.

2012 for sport has been the best I can remember. In my lifetime anyway.

Jessica Ennis for me!

ifyou followed her on facebook you would see all of teh stuff she is doing since the olympics to not only promote her sport - but also supporting other sports (esp the paralympics)

she seems to embody all the things that our youth of today should aspire to!

oh and if she dont win then wiggo for the lambchops and mo for the mcdonalds advertising!

For the first time in I can't remember how long, we are actually spoilt for choice of a worthy winner. In fact most of those 12 can feel very proud to have made the list in what has been a great year for British sport.

Most of that top 12 in any other year would have been an outright favourite. The Olympics, tennis and golf have all provided some stellar performances from the athletes and I think it will be a close run top 3.

My top 3 would be:

Bradley Wiggins - Awesome performance in the Tour and added to his Olympic gold should make him the outstanding candidate.

Andy Murray - Don't like him, but you cannot argue against his Olympic final demolition of Federer and subsequent US Open final win against Djokovic in 5 sets. Can rightly feel aggrieved if comes runner up.

Mo Farrah - Double Olympic gold at 5 and 10k is an incredible achievement. Again, has every right to feel miffed if he misses out but I honestly don't think he will be the popular choice as opposed to the other two.

Outsiders IMHO:

Ennis
Hoy
Ainslie
McIllroy

For me it's between Wiggins and Farah. Both gave achieved great things this year, and both have shown great personality. Loved wiggins speech after winning the tour letting the British fans know the raffle will be drawn shortly data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Thing about Wiggins is people mention the Tour de France and Olympics for 2012 but if memory serves me right wasn't he was the first Brit to win the Paris-nice since something like 1960? and The first brit to ever win the Tour de Romandie. He also sucessfully defended his title in another race ( cant remember which one)
