This is the 'new' test cricket, where batting standards have fallen dramatically and collapses become the norm. It's ok for it to happen in the odd match in a series but when it's every match it really does devalue what is supposed to be the highest level of competition.

I think sporting history just tends to focus on statistics rather than performances.

So it will show we won The Ashes in 2015, not how we did it nor how inconsistent both teams were.

Why the Aussies kept chasing the ball at Edgbaston and Trent Bridge we'll never know. Why they didn't select a proven seamer like Siddle from the start will be an eternal mystery. Why they didn't just apply themselves and play patient cricket rather than trying to force the pace is completely baffling.

Regardless of the result from The Oval, they dominated us in two Tests and we dominated them in two Tests; Cardiff was a bit of an aberration of the tone of the Series as either side could have won.

It's not been a classic, has it? There hasn't been a compelling contest between bat and ball, but I suppose the England supporters don't really care about that.

For the cricket lover, Tests that end on the third day is a worrying development and the game won't sustain much interest if that continues to happen.

I see Lyth gave a superb performance again in the 2nd innings.

Just checked the BBC weather website - according to them, it will be raining from lunch onwards on Sunday and Monday will be a complete washout.

So England can still get a draw!

We won't make lunch

England should have had a look at someone else in this match given that the series was won. Lyth looks like a decent player and would probably score runs against weaker sides, but it's tough work being an opener against the Aussies and his technique hasn't been up to it. It's a pity as he gives the impression of being a real team player. I don't know who else they could have tried though.

Losing Cook was a massive blow. The new ball is due, somehow England have got to make it to midday when the heavy rain is due.

Been really impressed by Nathan Lyon this series, think he's bowled really well.

No huge loss, it's away so games on overnight, if they get the following home series I'll be looking at my TV provider

It's a pity, Sky's coverage is absolutely brilliant.
